Setting up a CNAME record for any one of the domains or subdomains you've got in the hosting account will allow you to point it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all its records - A, MX and so forth, and will take the records of the domain name it's being directed to. In this light, you can't create a CNAME record to point your domain name to a third-party company and keep a working email service with the first hosting provider. Also, it is important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it's often mistaken for the A record of the domain address being forwarded. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to point a domain which you own through one company to the servers of another provider when you have created a site with the latter. In this way, the Internet site will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which we offer with each and every Linux cloud hosting package, allows you to create CNAME records for every single domain name or subdomain hosted in the account with just a few clicks. If you aren't sure how to go about it, you can check out the video tutorial that is available in the CP, read the comprehensive Help article on the subject, or simply contact us and we can help you 24/7, though it is unlikely you'll experience any problems as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to select a domain/subdomain, input the hostname that you're pointing to, and save the change. The new record will be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records enables you to have better control of your domains and website content and our system is simple and intuitive enough to allow individuals with no previous experience to create such records easily.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will take no more than a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed using our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will see a section dedicated to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted in the account. To create a CNAME record, you'll only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), enter where the latter is going to be pointed to and save the change. The new record is going to be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within a couple of hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is equally easy and takes a click. In case you experience any difficulties, you can go through our detailed help article, see the short video on the subject that we have added in the CP, or you can simply contact us for assistance.
