An Operating System is the software which communicates with the hardware of a PC and serves as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transfers requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web servers also use an Operating System that serves as a host for any software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS

Our virtual private server plans include three Linux releases which you may select from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being free, the OSs are very stable and secure and the reason to offer the three of them is to ensure that you can run each app that you would like, since different pieces of software could have different requirements with regards to the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of web developers who have created a large number of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to manage your website hosting content. Also, in case you decide that you need a new OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the Operating System for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting

In case you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on your machine as different applications may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe hosting service. Based on your choice, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
